Is it bad for a graphic tablet to be scratched?

I just bought a vistablet or something like that, but today, as I was tilting it to draw and stuff, I noticed it's kinda scratched already. I mean not deeply, but the imprints are there. I just bough it sunday. is that bad? is it jusst natural that they get scratched or am i pressing too hard? Is it already messed up by now, and do i need to get a new one?
