What kind of guitar strings should i use?

I ask this because I have a fender strat and when I play it unamplified it doesn't sound like my friends guitar. He has an ibanez sumthing or another. And if so then what types of string are good for what kind of music. I listen to all kinds of music so I know how to play all kinds too. So what would be the best guitar strings I can get that will sound good no matter what genre of music I feel like playing???
