How should I fill my hummingbird feeder?

I received a hummingbird feeder as a gift. It is a beautiful globe of gl with an opening into which the J-shaped feeding spout is inserted. You are supposed to fill it up with fluid/nectar and then turn it upside down so that the fluid flows into the spout and the birds can then feed from the mouth of the spout. The problem is, due to air pressure the fluid seems to stay inside the globe and not to reach a point where the birdies can reach it. Is there a special technique to this?
